Saving your Program Manager display

Save Settings on Exit, XE "Save Settings on Exit:don't" in the Options menu looks like a good way to save your neatly arranged desktop XE "desktop:saving" , but don’t fall for it. If this line has a check mark, click to clear it. Here is the informed way to save your settings. When the view is as you want it, click File. Holding down the Shift key, click Exit Windows. The view stays put. The hard drive will do something, as the setup is recorded. The value of this method becomes apparent when you make a jab at an icon to start a program, but slide the icon out of place. This change will be only temporary. When you start Windows again, the desktop will be as it was saved by Shift-Exit.
