The File|Passwords or Preferences|Passwords function answers requests of many QuickBooks users. The Owner password has authority to set the other passwords XE "passwords" . If a company is entered with the Data Entry password, only limited functions are possible. Passwords are described in Chapter 25.

Password protection is not encryption. The file contents are the same. The password merely restricts access. There is no assurance that a skilled hacker could not defeat the password.

NOTE

Keep track of your passwords. XE "password:removal" Password Password removal can be arranged by calling Technical Support, and setting up a project for password removal. Then your data must be sent in, on disks, and will be gone for a week or two. Do not bother to ask to have a password removed over the phone , it will not happen.
